    VOKA Eye Microsurgery Center uses the safest and most reliable method for astigmatism treatment - laser vision correction!

    Astigmatism

    Astigmatism is a fairly common eye disease. Astigmatismis a refractive error of the eye. In a normal state, the cornea and lens of a healthy eye have a smooth, spherical surface. With astigmatism, their sphericity is impaired. With astigmatism, a person sees the boundaries of objects as blurry, and straight lines as curved.

    Signs of astigmatism

    • deterioration of vision;
    • distorted image;
    • headache.

    Treatment of astigmatism

    • Laser vision correction

    In recent years, laser vision correction has been most often used to treat astigmatism. At the VOKA Eye Microsurgery Center, this procedure is performed for 10–15 minutes under local drip anesthesia, while the laser exposure does not exceed 30–40 seconds, depending on the complexity of the case.

    • Refractive lens replacement

    Refractive lens replacement is an operation completely identical to cataract removal surgery, but it is performed with the aim of correcting refractive error (including astigmatism), and not correcting cataracts. In the case of astigmatism, a toric lens is implanted, which has greater refractive power in certain areas, which allows it to reduce and often eliminate corneal astigmatism for the patient, significantly increasing uncorrected distance vision. Such a lens simultaneously corrects both astigmatism and accompanying ametropia - myopia or farsightedness. The operation takes place in a “one-day” mode, without hospitalization. Before the operation, you must take tests, bring a physician's report, and consult with our anesthesiologist.

    Important to know

    If astigmatism is not treated, it can lead to strabismus and a sharp drop in vision! Without correction, astigmatism can cause headaches and pain in the eyes.
    It is important to remember that glasses and contact lenses are not the solution to the fight against astigmatism. These methods only correct vision temporarily. You can completely get rid of astigmatism only through surgery.

    Degrees of astigmatism

    It is customary to distinguish three degrees of this disease:

    • Weak - up to 3 diopters, and if the indicator is no more than 1 diopter, the symptoms are often practically unnoticeable, and only in the ophthalmologist’s office, during an examination, can a person find out that he has astigmatism;
    • Average - up to 6 diopters: the consequences of an irregularly shaped cornea or lens are strongly felt, a person acutely feels impaired vision, and astigmatism over 3 diopters is often combined with pathologies of the cornea;
    • High - more than 6 diopters: found mainly in pathologies of the cornea. In addition to problems with the perception of the surrounding world, a person experiences pain in the eyes and headaches, often feels dizzy, and the distortion of objects is so great that it is impossible to do without correction. However, finding an effective correction for high degrees of astigmatism can be difficult.

    Timely contacting the VOKA Eye Microsurgery Center will allow you to control astigmatism.
