The VOKA eye microsurgery center in Grodno uses a high-tech, modern and safe method of getting rid of secondary cataracts - YAG LASER DISCISION!

During cataract surgery, the lens capsule, which is a thin sac, is preserved. An artificial lens is implanted into this capsular bag after cataract removal. The capsule, as its own biological tissue, over time undergoes biotransformation (the so-called secondary membranous cataract), expressed in the growth of the epithelium along the posterior capsule, its fibrosis, which leads to a decrease in its transparency and deterioration of vision.
The formation of opacities is not associated with the unprofessionalism of the ophthalmologist who performed the operation, but is the result of cellular reactions occurring in the capsular bag.
Currently, a modern, safe and high-tech method is used for the treatment of secondary cataracts - this is YAG laser discision of the posterior capsule of the lens (YAG laser discision of posterior secondary cataract).
Laser dissection of the posterior capsule allows you to treat secondary cataracts without penetrating the eye cavity with instruments. During this procedure, the cloudy posterior capsule is “dissected” with a special laser, thanks to which vision is restored. It is absolutely safe and painless, and the risk of complications is minimal. Laser treatment of secondary cataracts is carried out using local anesthesia. Typically, the procedure does not cause significant discomfort to patients. Before surgery begins, eye drops that dilate the pupil, such as Tropicamide 1.0%, are applied to the cornea. Through the dilated pupil, the surgeon can better see the posterior capsule of the lens. In most cases, secondary cataracts are successfully treated in one procedure; Secondary laser dissection is required only in rare cases.
The patient can go home within a couple of hours after laser surgery. Neither sutures nor bandages are usually applied after laser dissection. Patients are prescribed eye drops that must be used to avoid inflammation. A week after surgery, the patient should be examined by an ophthalmologist to ensure that the treatment was successful. It is recommended to undergo another examination a month later - it is not considered mandatory, but it is advisable to undergo it in order to identify possible complications in time.
